Retail transactions often go unnoticed when they function smoothly, but behind every purchase lies a complex network of payment systems.
DCPayments, a subsidiary of Digital Commerce Group (DCGroup), has introduced a new transaction acquiring solution designed to simplify payments for merchants while enhancing reliability, security, and integration.
“Our acquiring solution was born out of a desire to focus technology on a core system for clients that allows for customization to make that system work seamlessly for them,” said Paul Twigg, chief technology officer at DCGroup. “We’re not dictating how they should do business.”
The platform aims to address growing consumer demand for digital and mobile payment options, offering a one-stop solution that eliminates the need for multiple vendor contracts. It includes DCShop, an e-commerce platform, payment gateway APIs, tap-to-pay smartphone technology through DCGlass, and point-of-sale terminals.
DCShop allows businesses to list products, set pricing, manage shipping, and process payments independently, without relying on major online marketplaces. The system also integrates product information management, enabling syndication to platforms like Amazon and Shopify.
Merchants seeking to enhance their payment systems without overhauling their existing interfaces can integrate DCPayments’ APIs. These include 3D Secure (3DS) payments, a fraud prevention tool widely used in Europe but still emerging in North America.
Founded more than 25 years ago, DCGroup, which includes Digital Commerce Bank, DCPayments, and Pateno Payments, has established itself as a leader in financial technology innovation in Canada. The company prides itself on owning its acquiring solution from development to security, ensuring flexibility for customers.
DCPayments’ technology extends beyond retail, offering specialized solutions such as landlord-tenant payment systems, which facilitate contract renewals, rent increases, invoicing, and multi-property payment management.
Competitive pricing is another key feature of the service, with transaction fees designed to be lower than industry norms. The company ensures end-to-end encryption for all transactions, prioritizing security alongside efficiency.
Twigg emphasized the importance of seamless transactions for both merchants and customers. “There are other anxieties in the world that people should be worried about — not this one,” he said. “We’re working to ensure the system performs as quickly and seamlessly as technology allows.”
With an 18-month roadmap for additional features, DCPayments aims to set a new standard for integrated, secure, and cost-effective transaction processing in Canada’s financial technology landscape.
