Wealthica, Canada’s platform for consolidated wealth tracking, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year — marking a decade since a cold March morning in 2015 when co-founders Simon Boulet and Eric Chouinard first imagined a better way to manage financial data.
The idea was sparked during a meeting on March 9, 2015, a day Boulet remembers vividly.
“It was my mother’s birthday, it was freezing outside, and I almost had a house fire,” he recalls. “That meeting with Eric changed everything.”
Chouinard, frustrated by the slow and expensive family office services he was using, proposed a centralized, tech-forward solution for investment tracking. Boulet, already developing tools to automate his own portfolio management, quickly saw the potential. Together with Martin Leclair, the trio began building what would become Wealthica.
From the outset, the team sought a name to match their vision. Two contenders emerged: Wealthica and Vezgo. Wealthica won out, reflecting the company’s commitment to simplicity, transparency, and innovation.
“The name Wealthica embodies our vision,” said co-founder and CEO Eric Lemieux. “It reflects our commitment to making financial management accessible to everyone.”
While Vezgo didn’t make the cut at the time, the name lived on. It was later used to launch Wealthica’s sister company, which now provides the world’s most comprehensive crypto data aggregation API, spanning wallets, exchanges, and DeFi platforms.
The first lines of code were written by Boulet in May 2015, and Billy Kawasaki soon joined the founding team. By 2019, Wealthica welcomed Eric Lemieux — a former VP of Wealth Management at Desjardins — to help scale the vision he had long championed.
Wealthica now serves more than 100,000 Canadians and connects to over 20,000 financial institutions globally. The platform has become a trusted resource for high-net-worth families and individuals seeking a unified view of their finances.
What started as a personal pain point has grown into a pioneering fintech solution. A decade on, Wealthica is more than just a data aggregator — it’s a testament to the power of experience-driven innovation.
