Beacon, a Toronto-based fintech firm focused on financial services for immigrants, has launched Beacon India Bill Pay, a first-of-its-kind tool that enables users in Canada to directly pay bills in India from their Beacon Money account. The new service is now publicly available, marking a significant milestone in cross-border financial management.
The feature addresses a common challenge for many Indian immigrants who continue to have financial obligations in their home country. Studies show that 60% of remittances to India are used for family maintenance, including household expenses, utility bills, and loan payments. Until now, immigrants have had to navigate complex processes, costly intermediary services, or Non-Resident Indian (NRI) accounts to manage these payments.
With this launch, Beacon becomes the first North American company to integrate with Bharat Connect (formerly Bharat Bill Payment System, BBPS), India’s national bill payment infrastructure. This allows users to pay over 20,000 Indian billers securely while remaining compliant with the Reserve Bank of India’s financial policies.
“From the moment I arrived in Canada, I struggled with the inefficient, costly, and risky process of sending money home,” said Aditya Mhatre, Beacon’s co-founder and CPTO. “Even today, I continue to face those same challenges. That is why Beacon was created—to streamline the financial experience for immigrants, making it easier and more secure.”
Beacon’s partnership with Bharat Connect has been hailed as a game-changer. Noopur Chaturvedi, CEO of NBBL, called it “a seamless, convenient, and reliable platform for bill payments, ensuring Indians abroad can easily manage essential services back home.”
The introduction of India Bill Pay builds on Beacon’s growing suite of financial services for newcomers. The company already offers Beacon Money, which allows Indian nationals to open a Canadian account before arrival, with no SIN or Canadian address required.
Since launching, Beacon has gained traction in the immigrant-focused fintech space. In 2023, it introduced Beacon Remit, a service that enables money transfers from India to Canada at competitive rates. With the new bill payment feature, the company is positioning itself as a one-stop financial hub for immigrants navigating life between two countries.
Beacon’s rapid growth has earned industry recognition. Earlier this year, Fintech.ca named Beacon one of the Canadian fintech startups to watch in 2025, citing its innovative approach to immigrant-focused banking solutions.
By eliminating barriers to financial access, Beacon continues to redefine banking for newcomers, making cross-border transactions faster, cheaper, and more accessible.
