Coinbase has been named the Official Crypto Partner of both the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the 111th Grey Cup.
As the league’s first-ever partner in the crypto space, Coinbase will also sponsor the opening coin toss ahead of the championship game in Vancouver on November 17th.
Coinbase has identified Canada as a key market, ranking second among the company’s international markets in terms of crypto awareness. With approximately 13% of the population—an estimated five million Canadians—holding cryptocurrency, Coinbase sees tremendous growth potential in the region.
“The CFL is one of Canada’s most celebrated sports leagues, and we’re excited to partner with them,” said Lucas Matheson, CEO of Coinbase Canada. “Our goal is to strengthen Canadians’ connection with crypto by providing them with tools to engage in the digital economy and ultimately increase economic freedom across the country.”
As part of the partnership, CFL fans will receive $25 in bitcoin when they make their first trade on the Coinbase app or website.
During the post-season, fans can scan QR codes at the stadium or during Grey Cup Playoff broadcasts to win prizes. These include regular season tickets for next year or bitcoin rewards. One lucky fan will win the grand prize of $50,000 in bitcoin and an Ultimate Grey Cup Experience trip for two to the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg.
Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, is on a mission to increase economic freedom in Canada and globally. Officially launching in Canada in 2023, Coinbase has since become the largest and first international exchange registered as a Restricted Dealer.
